We’re coming off a holiday weekend when a lot of folks were enjoying the last moments of summer vacation. So not everyone was glued to the television in the hopes of seeing television history.

As a public service to those of you who missed it, here is Kent Hrbek’s attempt to field his position during Sunday’s Twins Legends game. Mere words and one-liners cannot do it justice. We need video, albeit of mediocre quality.

Some of us are so busy putting out high quality news product on Sunday nights that we pretty much never watch the Emmy Awards. Last night was no exception.

We did, however, catch the opening number featuring Jimmy Fallon, a few celebrity pals and the cast of “Glee.” It was quite a piece of work.

So as part of our never-ending coverage of the 35^th anniversary of “Born to Run,” we offer up this clip … at least until NBC Universal orders the video taken down off YouTube later this morning.

Brett Favre is retiring. Or so the story goes.

We’ve heard this all before. So has Aaryn Blain, the fellow who put together this delightful video in honor of Retirement No. 1 (not to be confused with Retirement No. 2 or Retirement No. 3). It’ll make you laugh. It’ll make you cry. It’ll make you think.

Nah! … It’ll just make you laugh … at the Vikings.

What do you get when you mash up Brett Favre, Tiger Woods, LeBron James and a good beat that you can dance to? It’s “Press Hop 2,” the latest viral video by DJ Steve Porter, whose original number became a YouTube sensation.

You’ll laugh. You’ll cry. And you’ll tap your toes, too!

As anyone in the newspaper business can tell you, these are rough times for the fishwrap industry. Publishers are struggling to find new ways to tailor their news product to an ever-dwindling audience.

But there is hope! Here’s a report, from the good folks at The Onion News Network, on how the Boston Globe is adjusting to our ever-changing media landscape.

It’s been a rough few months for Tiger Woods. But through all of the scandals, and women, and hours and hours of unprotected coitus, one brave company has stood beside him. Nike

It’s no surprise, then, that the Worldwide Leader in Sweatshop Sneakers would eventually consider using its onetime meal ticket in an ad campaign. Something tasteful. Something classy. Something that makes you want to run out and buy those Nike golf clubs you’ve always dreamed of.

Not quite.

What follows is the ad Nike debuted last night. It features Tiger … his sad, pouty eyes … and the voice of his father Earl, who taught him everything he knows about golf, and about family-breaking illicit affairs.

We’ve chosen Jimmy Kimmel’s presentation of this vital ad, if for no other reason than his takeoff on the ad is worth a chuckle in its own right.

Sunday’s loss in the NFC championship game was brutal for Vikings fans. One of the worst ever. It will be remembered forever for the shocking, and somewhat predictable, Brett Favre interception that cost the Purple a chance at victory in the final seconds.

Some fans reacted worse than others. First, we have Vikings announcers Paul Allen and Pete Bercich on the team’s radio broadcast. Bercich is the fellow speaking rationally; Allen is the guy channeling the spirits of both Jack Buck and Howard Beale:

… then we have a father and daughter, safe in their rec room, watching the final steps of what they believe will be their Vikings’ march to Miami. It’s ALMOST safe for workplaces … at least sailor workplaces:

One night after unveiling the $1.5 million “Bugatti Veyron Mouse,” Conan tripled the ante with a new $4.8 million mascot. A well-dressed Kentucky Derby winner.

It’s been a banner week in the late night TV wars, as Conan O’Brien gets ready to say goodbye to “The Tonight Show” and NBC gets ready to say goodbye to $45 million.

Actually, the network is on the hook for a little more than that thanks to last night’s introduction of the “Bugatti Veyron Mouse.” NBC officials were so thrilled with the bit that they pulled it off the network Website and Hulu. Luckily, it’s still available in about a million other places, including here. Enjoy.
